Mount Bisoke

Bisoke is a dormant volcano found in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park and Congolese Virunga national park, however the summit of the volcano is located in Rwanda about 25 km northeast of Goma and lake kivu. The slopes are covered with dense equatorial forests, bamboo, moorlands and alpine vegetation which habits mountain gorillas.

From the Rwandan side at Kinigi visitor’s center, it can be hiked for within a single day excursion which can be completed with 6 hours ascending and descending from the summit. On top of the volcano is a beautiful crater lake good for photography and breathtaking. Hiking starts very early at 8:00 am prior to this there is always a briefing from your hiking guide about nature of the volcano while you get prepared with hiking gears at Bisate trailhead.
The climb is steep and it can slippery after rain but with the guide through bamboo and moorlands, you slowly stand at 3711 meters on top of the summit.

Armed park rangers always escort hikers for safety and security. Porters are available in case one is needed at cost of 10 USD. The cost of the hiking permit is USD 80 without park entrance.
Note that for the above volcanoes, it requires one to have good hiking gears which include hiking boots, rain coats, warm clothing, walking stick and protective cover for your cameras.
There are a range of accommodation facilities including luxury, moderate and budget lodges just near the Kinigi volcanoes national park headquarters with comfort and breathtaking scenery and cool weather.
